THE BEGINNING
In 1995, Louis left the icy winters of Canada in search of warmth, inspiration, and a new beginning. Drawn by the raw beauty of Costa Rica’s jungle and the rhythm of a more soulful life, he began to imagine a place where travellers from around the world could gather, unwind, and celebrate life.

With a deep passion for woodworking and building, Louis set out to bring his vision to life. Bit by bit, walls were raised, rooms took shape, and every detail—down to the hand-mixed concrete and hand-laid tiles—was crafted with care. Every piece of furniture bore the mark of quality wood and artisan craftsmanship. What began as a dream slowly blossomed into Castillo de la Riviera—a hidden gem nestled in the lush jungle, yet easily accessible to wanderers seeking something special.
Louis, a natural performer who can play just about every instrument, never let go of his dream of creating a cabaret. To this day, during the dry season, he brings music and magic to Tuesday night dinners—where guests gather under the stars to enjoy good food, good company, and his impromptu shows.
In 2015, his daughter Julie joined him, bringing fresh energy and a modern touch to the family project. She helped bring Castillo into the digital age and added a creative layer to the experience with the opening of Luna LLENA, a vibrant concept store and café that celebrates local artistry and global connection.
Today, Castillo de la Riviera is more than a destination—it’s a feeling. A place to pause, to savor, and to remember.
